Wadi Majlass Dam

Challenges

The project regards the construction of a dam on wadi Al Majlass, requested by the Municipality of Muscat in order to reduce considerably the hydraulic risk of flooding in the town of Quriyat and in the territory located upstream until village of Habubiyah.

The dam proposed is 85 m high to a crest elevation of 108-23 m and 498 m in length, designed as a gravity dam of some 1˙950˙000 m3 of roller-compacted concrete. The structural stability of the dam is verified for a Return Period equal to  2˙475 years. The hydraulic design Return Period of the dam is 200 years (reservior volume and stilling basin).
